What to expect from a mechanical reasoning test at Lufthansa

What we know about the tests, which format this one can take and how to practise for it.

Does Lufthansa use mechanical reasoning tests?

We do not have a list of the tests Lufthansa sets. A mechanical test goes with technical work. Employers set it for apprentices, technicians and engineers, so expect one only if the role is of that kind.

What the Lufthansa hiring process does have is a stage of online tests: it is stage 2 of 5. The email that invites you to it names each test, so read it before you choose what to practise. All five stages are on our page about Lufthansa.

Which mechanical test format will Lufthansa use?

We do not know which mechanical test Lufthansa sets. The list has five that employers use, and what separates them is length: from 15 questions to 60.

Ours are short sets of picture questions, each with three answers to choose from.

How do you practise for a mechanical test at Lufthansa?

Most pictures come in pairs that differ in one thing: a longer lever, a larger gear, one more bulb. Spot what differs before you read the answers. When you get one wrong, work out which principle it was about, because there are only a handful.

Start with Mechanical Reasoning Test 1: it is free and needs no account. Then take the mechanical tests in the package with the timer on. Aim to answer a simple picture in a few seconds, so there is time left for the ones with several parts.

  • Dan Morgan, Bristol

    Revolut

Revolut ops role had a logical test. Did the inductive and diagrammatic ones here for a week. Passed first go. Decent price too.

  • Chiara

Good. Sometimes the explanation is a bit short for the harder questions but you can usually work it out from the steps given.

  • William Hartley

    DB numerical

Deutsche Bank numerical test passed. The practice tests here are a close match in difficulty and the timer got me used to the pace. Reports after each test are detailed.

  • Sana

Best numerical practice ive found and I tried 3 sites. The solutions show the quickest method not just the correct one.

  • Felix Baumann, Berlin

    BMW

Good preparation for the BMW online assessment, the numerical and inductive parts in particular. The real one had an English language section which obviously this doesn't cover. Still good.

  • Ravi Chandran, Coventry

Philips graduate programme. Inductive reasoning section is what I came for. Six inductive and six diagrammatic tests here, did each twice. Real test was the same flavour of pattern questions. Through to the next round.

Yes. Publishers use three words for one kind of test: comprehension (Bennett, SHL), aptitude (Ramsay, Wiesen) and reasoning. Whatever the name, the questions are pictures of gears, levers and circuits.
